Where to even begin on these two? I’ve been looking forward to this session before these two were even engaged! Thanks to social media linking Lauren to me, it feels like we’ve been dreaming this shoot up for a lifetime, and I loved finally getting to know them in real life!
We decided to adventure around Detroit on bikes, hang out at their apartment, and we wrapped with a fresh J that they passed amongst themselves (and then there was me, not partaking, but instead adding another reason to hate 2020!) But lucky for me, Josh is a cannabis grower and he sent me home with some of his own product, which I’m saving for election night!
What solidified my love for them though (photographically speaking) was when we stopped for some willow tree photos. I approached with a vision that wasn’t totally clear in my mind, but I kept trying to get it anyway. But in reality, one of the first “hang on, let me do a test” photos was the only one that would wind up mattering to me because it was the them-EST, I could feel it, and from that photo forward, we were in the groove.
I love that I can pin point in every session/wedding the exact moment in a photo when I connect to them beyond the surface, and how you can watch me get more comfortable digging into the essence of the people going forward. That’s probably one of the more addictive parts of this work for me— the seeking + digging…
And of course, any day I get to put humans in front of any of Ouizi’s brilliant mural work is a good + fine day,
