“By the time we met, both of us had stopped expecting that we would find a lifelong partner let alone the dream of a wedding celebration surrounded by friends and family.
In finding each other and the love that grew between us, we found a friendship and understanding we had not known before. When we decided to get married, we were both thinking we would have a small family wedding because just having the opportunity to commit the rest of our lives together was enough (and it is!) But our friends and family disagreed. They urged and persuaded us to consider a larger event, and slowly we acquiesced. In the process of planning and organizing our wedding, we came to realize that we were in debt to our friends and family for making our relationship possible in the first place. For it was the love and care of our friends and family over many years that had shaped us into who we are, supported us in our search for a partner, and fortified us in our commitment to each other.
Our wedding day was as much about our friends and family as it was about us. We had the wedding in Ann Arbor despite the fact that the majority of our guest were from out of state. We were overwhelmed by the number of friends and family who joined us. What a fantastically joyful day it was – we could have never imagined how amazing, inspiring and heartening it came to be.”
…I’ll never forget the day I spoke to Steph on the phone about their wedding. By the time it was over, we were hanging up in tears. In the frenzy of wedding season, I nearly almost forgot the words she said to me on the phone…something like there was a time when she wasn’t sure that this day would ever come for her.
It did, and I got a front row seat, and I will never ever be the same again.
